Villasimius area
The intense colors of the sea, clear and sparkling waters, granite rocks, delightful coves, long stretches of sand, lagoons, and green hills create unique emotions that make Villasimius a favorite setting for commercials.
Villasimius is the pearl of the south, a dream tourist destination where the winter population of fewer than four thousand residents multiplies with the arrival of tens of thousands of tourists during the warmer months. Its coastline forms a 'crown' of beaches, interspersed with small cliffs and the Capo Carbonara promontory. Starting from Capo Boi, the southern limit of the protected marine area, you will find, along the panoramic road, the splendid beaches of Porto sa Ruxi, Campus, and Campulongu, all characterized by azure waters and white sand dunes framed by Mediterranean scrub.
Near the town center is the unique Spiaggia del Riso, distinguished by the 'grains' that make it up. Beyond the modern marina, on the western side of Capo Carbonara, are coves nestled among the rocks, including Cala Caterina. On the eastern side, prepare to discover breathtaking gems, starting with Porto Giunco, with the Notteri pond behind it, home to pink flamingos and other rare bird species. From the top of the promontory that overlooks them, where an Aragonese tower stands, you will witness a dazzling panorama that will remain etched in your mind (and in your photos): a double blue field, with various shades, practically 'two seas' separated by a strip of light, thin sand resembling powdered sugar. Heading north, there are the beaches of Simius and Traias, and further on, Rio Trottu and Manunzas, surrounding the marvelous Punta Molentis, another jewel of Villasimius. From Capo Boi to Serpentara Island, passing by Cavoli Island and various shallows, a 'cemetery' of wrecks from all eras, the Capo Carbonara marine area offers underwater spectacles: schools of friendly fish wander among valleys, bastions, and gullies colored yellow by sea daisies and red by gorgonians, covered by posidonia meadows.
Along with the sea, you can enjoy shopping, seafood dinners, and cultural and archaeological visits. Visit the Nuragic remains, the necropolises of Accu Is Traias (1st century BC-3rd century AD) and Cruccuris (1st-2nd century AD), near the Roman baths of Santa Maria, and the site of Cuccureddus, a settlement that was first Phoenician-Punic, then Roman. Don't miss the archaeological museum, which tells stories of sunken treasures. One of them lies on the seabed of the Cavoli: the statue of the Virgin of the Sea, a work by Pinuccio Sciola, in whose honor the Madonna del Naufrago Festival takes place every year at the end of July, featuring a picturesque sea procession.
